CANDLER—Alan Lee Gearheart, 59, died May 30. 2017. Born March 31, 1958 in Norfolk, VA to the late Maria Gearheart Dougherty and James H. Gearheart, a US Navy careerist, he grew up with siblings Linda, Jamie, Ricky, and Michelle. A construction project manager, he was known for his energy, creativity and love of fun and learning. Alan enjoyed line dancing, camping, traveling with family and hosting get-togethers at his mountain retreat.

He is survived by wife, Marilyn; son, Shawn of Columbia, SC; daughter, Andrea Dudley and sister, Michelle Launey, both of Charlotte; sister Linda Atkinson of Utah; brother Jamie of California; and grandsons Bobby, Tommy, Jacob, and Noah. Alan is predeceased by brothers Ricky, Mitchell and daughter Stephanie Leigh.

His memorial service is set for Friday in Asheville. Donations are requested to the Care Partners Hospice Foundation are requested in lieu of flowers.
