Alton Herbert (Herb) Reeves, Jr., 74, died peacefully on March 17, 2018 in Asheville, NC, after a lengthy illness. Herb was born August 11, 1943 in Laurel, Mississippi, the son of Alton and Effie Reeves. He is survived by his companion Ulla Thompson, his daughter Patti, son Geoff and his daughter-in-law Jennifer; his four grandchildren Linda, April, Hanna and Avery; and his former wife and dear friend Drucie, along with many friends in Asheville.
Herb was a lover of classical music, movies and an avid photographer. He will be remembered for sharing his love for literature and history. There are not enough words to describe Herb's depth of interests and passions. Many at the Greenville, SC, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will remember his long leadership of the Sunday morning discussion group. His friends knew him as a curmudgeon with a warm heart. Herb served in the Air Force in the 861st Radar Squad and earned his Bachelor degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina. He was a life-long media enthusiast, having worked both in print media and public radio, and in his later years following politics and current events with great interest.
