Billy McDonald Thompson, 88, of Arden, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville.

Mr. Thompson was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on May 28, 1929, to the late Lewis and Alice Underhill Thompson. He was married to Lillian Pate Thompson, who preceded him in death in 1988. He was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church. Mr. Thompson served his country proudly as a Captain in the U.S. Army National Guard and retired from Carolina Power and Light Company after forty years of service. He was a sports car enthusiast who loved going to the beach. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Billy Thompson, Jr. and wife Sherry of Rutherfordton and Phillip Thompson and wife Renee of Fairview; a sister, Julia Rice and husband Reid of California; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
