Charles Raymond O'Hara, Jr., aged 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Weaverville, NC on Monday, October 23rd, following an extended illness. Ray was born November 5, 1938 in Brooksville, Florida. He graduated in 1956 from Hernando High School. He then served for six years in the U.S. Navy, where he worked as an electronics specialist aboard the U.S.S. Hancock. After his discharge, he went on to study at the University of South Florida as a member of its charter class. He worked as an office supply salesman for the majority of his career. Ray enjoyed being in the woods or sitting on the porch with an ice-cold beer. He also loved to read and was a repository of knowledge on varied and obscure subjects. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband and father, an accomplished poet, and for his sharp wit. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Raymond O'Hara, Sr., and his mother, Mary Beacham O'Hara. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hoobler O'Hara; his sister, Ann Woodard; his daughter Kelli O'Hara and son-in-law Dale Dority; his daughter Leslie Starr O'Hara and son-in-law Eric Reynolds; and his granddaughter, Raven O'Hara. A Celebration of Life will be held in Weaverville, NC at a later date.
