Charles R. "Tinker" Poteet, 71, of Candler passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017 at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. A native of Sylva, he was a son of Margaret McColley Ulf of New Orleans, LA, and the late Charles Edward Poteet. He was a graduate of Sylva Webster H.S. class of 1964, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After 36 years of service, he retired from W.K. Dickson Engineering in Charlotte, NC. "Tinker" was proud to be a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Among some of his favorite hobbies were riding his Harley Davidson and showing off his green thumb in gardening. He loved adventure and enjoyed life to its fullest. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Poteet; children: Robert Poteet and his spouse, Sherri, of Arden and Caitlin Poteet of Candler; stepson, Ricky Campbell and his spouse, Janice, of Belton, SC; siblings: Richard Ulf and his spouse, Patty, of Silver Springs, MD, David Ulf and his spouse, Ellen, of New Orleans, LA, Mike Poteet and spouse, Kim, of Cullowhee, Carolyn Curcio and partner, Fred, of Washington, D.C., and Betty Ann French of Sylva, and grandchildren, Todd Poteet, Hannah Beth Poteet, and Corbin Smith.
