David Joseph Erbland

David Joseph Erbland, 76, of Clyde passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Valor Hospice Wing of the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. Born on July 12, 1940 in Fostoria, OH, he was a son of the late, Louis A. Erbland and Virginia Ruth Jordanoff. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss H.S., and attended Owens Technical College both in Toledo, OH. Proudly he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War. After 28 years of service, he retired from Kaiser Aluminum, and then went on to find employment with Mason County Campground in Ludington, MI until his final retirement. After his retirement he moved from Pentwater, MI to Waynesville, NC where he became active in the Haywood County Honor Guard, and was a member of both the V.F.W. post 5202 and the American Legion post 47. He also enjoyed boating, volunteering at the local hospital in Michigan, as well as had been a member of the Civil War and History Reenacting, 6th Ohio Volunteer Calvary. He was a devout Catholic. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Lois Roberta Pirtle; children: Linda Erbland of Toledo, OH, Tina Werner and her spouse, Robert, of Clearwater, FL, Robert Erbland and spouse, Sara, of Clyde, NC, Virginia Erbland and her spouse, "Concho" Perez, Asheville, NC; sister, Elizabeth Eisel of Berky, OH, and step children: Denise Bowle, Deena Arnett, and Debra Jones. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the American Legion in Waynesville, NC. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Valor Hospice Wing at the VA Medical Center 1100 Tunnel Road Asheville, NC 28805.
