Doris Mae (Anderson) Reichert

April 30, 1925 ~ July 31, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Doris Mae Reichert passed away on July 31, 2017 at Fleshers of Fairview Health Care Center at the age of 92.

Doris Mae (Anderson) Reichert was born April 30, 1925 in Appleton, MN to parents August and Cora (Elvecrog) Anderson, the youngest of 5 brothers and one sister.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and graduated from Odessa High School.

On August 27, 1943, she was married to Kenneth Reichert.  She had 2 children, Randy and Vicki.  She initially lived near Odessa, MN until 1959, moving to Mitchell, SD and then Madison, SD.  She moved on to Sioux Falls, SD in the mid-1970's.  Doris was employed in retail in Madison at Coast to Coast Store and at The Emporium and in Sioux Falls at Dayton's which became Marshall Fields and then Macy's during her tenure of 27 years with the company before retiring at the age of 81.  She had many friends whom she worked with and they affectionately called her the "Jewelry Queen."  She had fond memories of her years at Dayton's and frequently called those the best years of her life.

After retirement, Doris moved to Port Charlotte, Florida to be near her daughter and her daughter's family including her only grandchild, Alec Skidmore.  She followed her daughter's family moving to Asheville, NC in 2010. She enjoyed music at home and going to the local symphony over the years.  She was a regular patron at nearby Piazza Restaurant and considered the staff her extended family where they affectionately called her Dori Mae.  She particularly enjoyed recent visits from old friends from Sioux Falls, Leslee and Ed Lund, Peggy and Harley Major, and from California from Kim and Courtney Bice, and her nephew Bishop Craig Anderson and his wife Liz, and many phone calls from friends.   With failing health, she moved to Fleshers of Fairview Health Care Center where she received excellent and loving care with a failing body, but a sharp mind that loved a good debate especially regarding politics.  Doris rapidly declined in health after a bout of shingles and finally went in peace to a better place.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ken and her son Randy; 5 brothers, Arvid, Willard, Leo, Alvin and Don; and her sister, Edith Semmler.  She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Skidmore and her Husband Ernie, and their son, Alec, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

A celebration of life was held at her daughter's home after her death.  A service will be held for her next summer in Minnesota.

Asheville Mortuary Services of Asheville, NC handled the arrangements after her death.  She was loved and will be missed by many.
