I am saddened to read of Gary's passing today. I went to school with Gary. As I read the words today I can say that they describe very well the Gary that I knew. He was a very determined friend, and someone who I could count on. Gary and I went our separate ways after high school, but sometime later I was happy to run into him at a business, and had a nice chat.

A little anecdote: Gary and I were trying out for little league some time in the 60's, couldn't tell you exactly when. As several of us were waiting around to get assigned to a team, one of the coaches came over and said that they needed one more catcher, and asked if any of us would try out. Now being catcher is a tough position, as guys running toward home may try to run into you so you will drop the ball. So for a few seconds there was silence. Then Gary stepped forward and said, "I'll do it". Gary made a fine catcher. That's the kind of guy he was, even as a kid. True story.
