James 'Jim' LaVerne Newby

James 'Jim' LaVerne Newby, 76, passed away on February 3, 2018 at Margaret Pardee Memorial Hospital of Hendersonville, NC. He was born on July 24, 1941 to Ralph John Newby and Faye Frances Holder Newby in High Point, NC. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his sister Cathy Crist. He also lived in Goldsboro and Rosman, NC. Jim served in the US Air Force for 20 years, including the Vietnam War era. In addition to his career in the Air Force, Jim worked with the Wayne County Boys Club. He was a member of the Rosman United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed golf, woodworking and sports.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Della Frances Cameron Newby; his daughters, Marta Anderson of St. Peters, MO and Amanda Rose (Tim) of Winfield, MO; sons, Scott Newby of Tiltonsville, OH and Steven Newby (Kristina) of Marietta, GA; sister, Sue Rodgers (Calvin) of Chesapeake, VA; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; nieces, Angela Crist of VA, Lisa Christ of TX, Tina Crist of VA, and Dana Rodgers of VA; and nephew, Tommy Crist of VA.

A memorial service will be held on February 10, 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Rosman United Methodist Church with Cole Altizer officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rosman United Methodist Church, PO Box 11 Rosman, NC 28772.
