Janet Marie Horan, 67, of Weaverville passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 6, 2017 at the John F. Keever Jr., Solace Center in Asheville.  Born on January 5, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Josephine Horan.  She was an alumnus of John Jay College in New York, and one of the pioneer women to enter the Fire Department in New York City (FDNY). As a firefighter serving at Engine 237, she and her colleages regularly put their lives on the line to save others.  After retirement and the events of September 11, 2017, Janet continued to help many others from all over the Asheville area.  Surviving is her son, Gary Charles and his spouse, Xinni Gvo, of Asheville, NC; siblings, Robert C. Horan Sr., of Ronkowkoma, NY, and Marilyn J. Horan and her spouse, Frank Pose, of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Gary Jr., Gabriel, Joseph, Eve, Josiah, Brooklyn, and Gianna Demyan, and a nephew, Rob Horan Sr., and his spouse, Alice Mao, of Flushing, NY. Her family would like to thank her friends for being a part of her life, and may her life encourage you to live more.
