John W. “Jack” Donovan, 76, of Lake Lure, North Carolina died on April 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving daughters, stepson and daughter-in-law.  Born in Albany on September 6, 1940 to the late David and Margaret Purdell Donovan; Jack is predeceased by his beloved wife Bettina Huston Wolff, who he tenderly cared for until her death on October 28, 2016.  Jack is also predeceased by his sister Helen, brother David, and son-in-law Brian Stothart. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his five daughters; Marianne (Stephen) Gange, Brenda (Kevin) Nusbaum, Patty (Russ) Gibson, Michelle (Tony) Camuglia, Valerie Stothart; and stepchildren, Doug (Debbie) Wolff, Eric Wolff and Jennifer Wolff.  Jack worked for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 7 before retirement. He is also remembered for serving as Lake Lure Town Commissioner and Board of Adjustment member. Jack enjoyed golfing, working on classic cars and spending time with Bettina and their many friends. Jack was adored for his charm, quick wit, generosity, and devotion to family, friends and anyone needing a helping hand. Jack is also survived by the mother of his daughters, Marianne Donovan, and 13 grandchildren; Shawn, Ally, Sara, Jesse, Brent, Anthony, Johnny, Jaci, Sam, Sophia, Jailyn, Marissa, and Allison; many great grandchildren and his brother, Michael. On September 3, 2017, a celebration honoring his life will be held at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga, NY. Donations may be made to Mission Rathbun House, 121 Sherwood Road, Asheville, NC 28803. Deeply loved and always loving, you will live long in our hearts and memories.
