John Robert Lamun, age 77, died on December 19, 2017 in the Charles George VA Medical Hospice Center in Asheville.

He was born June 13, 1940 in Brownfield, Texas to the late John and Walterene Lamun.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Smart Lamun; and daughters, Laura Lamun Allen (Dave), and Lisa Lamun; stepdaughters, Leah Oglesby Young (Zeb), and Jennifer Oglesby Partlow; granddaughters, Ashley Young and Grace Young; sisters, Patsy Aiken (Charles), and Jean Jensen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

After high school, he served in the US Army. He graduated from University of Colorado with a Business degree, and later graduated from Harvard University with a Master’s Degree. He worked for General Motors, headquartered in Detroit, Michigan as VP of Salaried Personnel. He left General Motors to help start a groundbreaking new car company, Saturn, in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

He traveled extensively and loved to fish. He was a native son of Texas, a family man, and ardent Longhorn fan. He was wild at heart, lived life to the fullest, and embraced life with a huge smile and open arms.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 25 at 3:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148-0142

The family will receive friends at the home following the services.
