Jonathan Scott MacNeil, 65, of Asheville, passed away August 24, 2017 at Mission Memorial Hospital. A native of Long Island, NY, Scott was born January 24, 1952 to the late Harold Burnett Cumbaugh and Maryrose MacNeil Cumbo. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Anne Monroe; son, Andrew Caleb Quinn MacNeil; and a granddaughter, Azlyan Faith Dal Bo. Mr. MacNeil graduated from Calvary Chapel Bible College and from UNCA. He served in the United States Merchant Marines. Later he owned and operated a construction, painting, and remodeling company in Asheville, North Carolina and Park City, Utah. He enjoyed travel, music, antique renovation, biblical studies, and Christian ministry. He loved his family and lived his life to the beat of his own drum with tenacity, perseverance, and faith. Survivors include his wife, Karen Ann Pennabaker of the home; children, Jeremy Troy of N. Carolina, V. Grace MacNeil of Indiana, Elizabeth G. MacNeil of Nevada, J. Luke MacNeil of California, Christopher MacNeil of Israel, Timothy N. MacNeil of N. Carolina, and Kathleen A. MacNeil of New York; sister, Christine of Louisiana; and eight grandchildren. Private services will be held at a later date.
