Carol Lynn Gwaltney, 64, of Asheville, passed away peacefully at J.F. Keever Jr. Solace Center, Friday, March 10, 2017. A native of Craven Co. she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Carolyn Trent Gwaltney. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Franklin "Frank" Gwaltney, Jr. She is survived by her loving sister, Janet King Gwaltney of Wilmington, NC; nephews, Christopher Michael Gwaltney of New York, NY; Michael Trent Gwaltney (Monitia Moore) and their son, Jaylen Charles Pagan; and sister-in-law, Diana W. Gwaltney. She attended ECU where she received a degree in social work, continuing her education at Campbell University of Law. Furthermore, Lynn went to Emory University where she received a Master of Law degree. Prior to attending law school, Lynn worked as a group home house parent and as a CPS social worker. In her varied careers, she was always passionate about helping others in need. This truly showed through in her choice to practice family law in Marion, NC. She took great pride in being one of the few 'lady' lawyers in McDowell County and continued practicing until she physically wasn't able. She loved to read and cook. She also enjoyed TV, movies, and spending time with friends and her cats, Pax and Dax. Her wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed. The greatest joys of her life were her nephews, whom she loved dearly. We love you Lynn and will miss you. A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date.
