Mary Kate Scroggs Carpenter, 90, of Asheville, NC, gently passed August 2, 2017.

A native of Hayesville, NC, Mrs. Carpenter was born September 8, 1926 to the late Ronda C. Scroggs and Ella M. Moffitt Scroggs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Zeb W. Carpenter; son, John W. Carpenter; brother, Claude M. Scroggs; and sister, Flora Faye Scroggs.

Mrs. Carpenter was a resident of Asheville for 17 years, and is a former resident of Weston, CT. She retired from Save the Children International, where she was a receptionist for 41 years. She loved every day of working at Save the Children in Norwalk and in Westport, CT where she was a devoted and loyal employee who cherished her "Save the Children family." After retirement she moved to Asheville, NC where she attended the Church of the Nazarene for many years. Mrs. Carpenter enjoyed sewing, dancing, antique auctions, tag sales, and growing African violets, lilacs, and gardenias.  She enjoyed her role as a grandmother for her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Ann Satta (John Jr.) of Arden, NC and Emma Jane Hennig of Riverton, CT; grandchildren, Beth Murray (Mark) and Todd Hennig (Lindsey) of OR, Jay Carpenter (Burnadette), Mindy Carpenter, and Patrick Satta of NC, J. Scott Carpenter of NV, and John Satta lll (Melissa) of TN; great-grandchildren, Cody, Abigail, Cameron, Lucy, and Carina; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church at 270 Overlook Rd. Asheville, NC 28803 at 12pm on Thursday, the 10th of August, 2017.
A celebration of her life with food and music will immediately follow at Avery's Creek Community Center, 899 Glenn Bridge Rd. SE Arden, NC 28704, which is located behind the Avery's Creek Fire Department. All family and friends are invited to attend.
