Maxine Morgan Huggins passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2017 at Givens Estates in Asheville, NC. Maxine was born in Charlotte, NC on September 9, 1928.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Odell Huggins and son, Lonnie Odell Huggins, II.

Survivors include a son: Richard M. Huggins of Stanfield, NC; a daughter, Leigh Huggins Noblitt (Steve) of Asheville, NC; grandsons Joshua Noblitt of Atlanta, GA; Geoffrey Noblitt (Julie) of Asheville, NC; and two great grandchildren, Lily Faye and Jack. Maxine was one of seven sisters and is survived by two of them: Frieda Patterson of Santa Monica, CA and Carolyn Talley of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews and great friends.

Maxine attended Hoskins Elementary School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and third in her class at Thomasboro High School in 1945. Soon after graduation she entered the work force as a young para professional in the insurance industry which became her career. Maxine was a lifelong learner and a member of Senior Scholars in Charlotte, taking classes that interested her along the way at CPCC and Queens University. She was an avid reader and supporter of the Novella Festival of Reading and Friends of the Library. Max enjoyed the Charlotte Symphony and supported them as a season ticket holder for many years. Her love of reading came in at a close second to using her ‘green thumb’, transforming her surroundings into a haven for flowers and birds. Being a proud supporter of the Democratic Party, she actively campaigned for President Barak Obama., both in 2008 and 2012. In 2004, she and her sister, Frieda, attended the Grand Opening of the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, AR. She and her sister Carolyn attended the Democratic National Convention festivities in Charlotte in 2012. Maxine was known for her open mindedness and belief that we are all created equal in the eyes of God. This was reflected in the diversity of people in her life she considered friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Matthews United Methodist Church in Matthews, NC on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 am with her grandson, Rev. Joshua M. Noblitt officiating. A reception to greet the family will be held at the church immediately following the service. Special thanks to all that cared for our mother while she was still living at her home in Charlotte and to those who so lovingly cared for her after her move to Givens Estates in Asheville including the wonderful people from Four Seasons Compassion for Life.

Our mother was a lover of flowers, but contributions to any of the following organizations to honor her memory would touch her heart more than anything: Four Seasons Compassion for Life 571 South Allen Rd. Flat Rock, NC 28371 Haywood Street Congregation 297 Haywood St. Asheville, NC 28801 Matthews UMC 's Daily Bread Ministry 801 S. Trade St. Matthews, NC 28105
