Nancy Martin

Nancy Dallam Martin, 91, of Asheville, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Mission Hospital. She was born January 29, 1926 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of the late Louis Robiou Dallam and Ruby Cramer Dallam. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary D. Gennett, two husbands, Walter M. Armistead and Harry C. Martin, and a daughter, Nancy. She is survived by her daughter, Mary, of Venice, Italy, her son, John, of Asheville, her son, Matthew (and wife Catherine), of Asheville, and her granddaughter, Clarke, of Chapel Hill, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

 

Following WWII, Nancy was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. Nancy was an active member of the Asheville community for decades. A long time member of the Junior League of Asheville and the Town and Country Garden Club, she devoted herself to improving her mountain community, including the Veterans' Memorial in Asheville. Nancy was one of the progenitors of the highly successful docent program at All Souls Cathedral. She adored her comrades in her book club, McGuffey's Readers, and her fellow devotees of the Number One South Asheville Ladies Bridge Club.

 

Nancy was a devoted and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She will be missed by her family and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 am at the All Souls Cathedral in Biltmore Village. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the All Souls Cathedral Building Fund or to Care Partners Hospice in Asheville.
