Virginia Z. Long, formerly of Asheville, passed away at the age of 95 on March 22, 2017 in Flat Rock. She was born in Haddonfield, NJ, to Lorenzo E. and Florence N. Shreeves. She was married to the late Albert Burch Long for 52 years before he died in 1996. Although she outlived most of her friends, Virginia is survived by her three children, Linda Cheshire of Horse Shoe, NC; Leslie Vann (Eddie) of Fort Mill, SC; and Eric Long (Janis) of Crawfordville, FL; 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Virginia was employed in numerous capacities for many years by WLOS-TV in Asheville, retiring in 1984. Following her retirement, she pursued a second career as a tax preparer with H&R Block.

Virginia and Al were avid bridge players and participated in several bridge clubs for many years.  They were also active members of First Congregational Church in Asheville. Virginia enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and a literacy coach for adults. She loved reading, sewing and spending time with her family and her dogs.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, your local animal shelter or your favorite charity. Services will be private.
