Doris Gray Fisher

WAYNESVILLE – Doris Gray Rhymer Fisher, age 78, passed away on Thursday March 21, 2024, at Four Seasons Hospice in Flat Rock, NC. Doris was a lifelong resident of Waynesville and was the daughter of late Myrtle Smith Rhymer Mehaffey. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her brothers Carl, Jr. (Olean, deceased), Paul (Juanita, deceased), and Doug (Lana) as well as her sister Dorothy (Frank, deceased) and granddaughter Taylor. Doris is survived by her sister Ruthie.

Doris was a Registered Nurse by trade and while working full time attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Doris is survived by her Husband of 62 years, Robert Fisher. He took great care of Doris in her final years. Doris had three surviving sons that she and Robert proudly raised. The three sons are Daryl (Kim), Eric (Angelina, deceased), and Brian (Angie).

Doris is further survived by three grandchildren, Parker, Ryan (Julia), and Stephanie (Jeffrey), as well as two great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Jaden. Doris had many family members and extended family members including numerous nieces and nephews with spouses and children.

A Celebration of Life for Doris will be held at Ninevah Baptist Church, where she and Robert were members for years. The service will be held on Friday March 29, 2024, at 11:00 am. The address is 931 Country Club Drive in Waynesville, NC 28786. The family will fellowship immediately following the service in the Church’s Fellowship Hall. Pastor Mike Leslie will officiate and be assisted by Charles Robertson.
