Barbara Field Gordon, 86, of Waynesville, NC passed away on May 23, 2014.  Beloved mother of 6 children, who has 18 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She was surrounded by many of her immediate family when she passed into her eternal rest.
Barbara Gordon was born January 9, 1928, in Seattle WA.  She was the only child of Chester W. and Alice W. Field of Seattle WA.  A graduate of University of Washington, she was a school teacher for several years before duties as a full time mother of two girls and four boys became her focus.  Later she began a real estate career, focusing on homes in Houston TX and Whidbey Island WA.  
Barbara Gordon was preceded in death by a son, James Gordon in 1982.  She is survived by 5 children, Carleen Trevino of Waynesville, Richard Gordon, III of Jacksonville FL, Lawrence Gordon of Annandale VA, Thomas Gordon of San Diego CA, and Diane Briggs of Fredericksburg VA.
Her ex-spouse is retired Navy Captain Richard F. Gordon, Jr., a former test pilot and astronaut.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 26, 2014 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesville.
