Barbara Housh Kersbergen died of heart disease on October 27, 2018 at the age of 88.
Barbara Kersbergen is survived by her husband, Al; son, Bill Kersbergen of Pembroke Pines, Fl.; and daughter, Sue Schwein (Rick), of Asheville, NC. Preceding in death are her parents, Bill and Merle Housh; sons, Jim Kersbergen and Tom Kersbergen; daughter in law, Maria Kersbergen; and sister, Joann Henely. Barbara is remembered greatly by her four grandsons, Chris, Daniel, Brandon (Sarah), and Max (Logan); and two granddaughters, Kayla and Courtney; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Kersbergen; two step granddaughters, Ashley and Brooke Vernier; and four great granddaughters, Brynn, Kingsley, Natalie and Lily Kersbergen.
Barbara was born on May 15, 1930 in Sparta, Wisconsin. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, raised her family in Daytona Beach, FL, and retired in Haines City, FL, and later Asheville, NC.
Barbara had a love for music that was unmatched. She was an organist at Glen Echo Christian Church, in Des Moines. Barbara was an elementary school music teacher at Holly Hill Elementary School and an organist for Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church in Florida. She also played the organ at First Christian Church, Haines City and Lake Bess, Winter Haven.
At the time of her death, Al and Barbara had been married for 65 years. Al was the most loving husband to Barbara, and they had a long, beautiful marriage. They loved doing things together. They enjoyed going on vacation, playing cards and other games, going to concerts, going on cruises, and for 18 years they spent a week in the mountains of Virginia with three other couples.
A memorial service will be held at Mills River Presbyterian Church in Mills River, NC on Friday, November 2 at 2:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mills River Presbyterian Church Music Program.
