Beverly Brockway Obituary

Beverly Ann Reutebuch Brockway fell asleep peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Emerald Ridge in Asheville, NC, at the age of 79. She was born in Cass County, Logansport, Indiana, on April 28, 1939, to Gerald Reutebuch and May Lucile Otto Reutebuch, who both preceded her in death.

Beverly grew up in Indiana, attending elementary school in both Grass Creek and Logansport, IN. At her parent’s direction, she left home at the age of 15 to attend high school for several years at a private boarding academy, Indiana Academy, in Cicero, IN, where she graduated in May 1957. She sold religious books door to door in Indiana, Illinois, and East Chicago to earn a scholarship with which to enter college at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, in the fall of 1957. While there, she studied Music and Elementary Education.

In the spring of 1958 while attending college, she met Dale Brockway at a talent audition program. They were married on August 23, 1959, in her hometown of Logansport, IN. They made their home for many years in Michigan, where their three children, Deborah, Teresa, and Kerry, were born. Beverly was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for her whole life. She was highly involved with her church family, especially helping out with music during church services and at Evangelistic and Camp meetings. She served as head organist on many occasions and also was employed as an organist by several Protestant churches. She taught piano lessons for over 25 years to around 50 students. She was very musically gifted in voice, piano, organ, and accordion and had perfect pitch.

Beverly collected dolls and Christmas houses and enjoyed the many travels with both family and friends. She relished family and friendship reunions, music, reading, shopping and garage sales, puzzles, playing games, adult colorbooking, and socializing with friends.

Beverly worked in various places throughout her lifetime, as her family experienced life in many beautiful places in the nation – Michigan, Colorado, North Carolina, New Hampshire, California, and Tennessee. She was employed in many offices as a secretary, and had various accounting positions as a bookkeeper or payroll clerk, also working as a travel agent, real estate broker and in retail sales as a supervisor, customer service representative, and receiving clerk.

In 1998, she moved to western NC to be near her daughter, Teresa Bass, and family. Shortly after arriving there, she was hired at J&S Cafeteria in Asheville, where she was employed until her retirement in 2014. She will be remembered by many in the community by her dedicated customer service skills and her beautiful smile and personality.

Beverly was a wonderfully dedicated mother and gave selflessly to her family. Her Christian love and beauty to those around her are a tribute to the God she served so undeniably throughout her lifetime. She was committed to sharing the wonderful gospel of Christ in her own kind and friendly way, daily walking with Him constantly by her side. In the last few years of her life, she lived with her daughter Teresa and son-in-law Bill Bass, as she fought courageously with a terrible debilitating illness, which claimed her life on August 9, 2018.

She is survived by her children, Debbie & husband Dale Hainey from Alvarado, TX, Kerry & wife Cindy Brockway from Ooltewah, TN, and Teresa & husband Bill Bass from Hendersonville, NC. Also still living are her sister Jeanne & husband Jim Thompson from Spencer, IN, and her brothers, Jerry and wife Betty Reutebuch from Arcadia, IN, and Tim and wife Joyce Reutebuch from Cope, SC. She has several grandchildren: Misty Lynn Gabardi and husband Charlie Allen, Samantha Jo Burns, Jessie Ray & wife April Blanton, Brian Bass, and Christopher and wife Mikaya Bass, along with 6 great grandchildren.

Some texts that meant a lot to Beverly:

Job 19:25-27 – For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God, whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another: though my reins be consumed within me.

Psalms 55:22 – Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Psalms 116:15 – Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

Isaiah 40:31 – But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 57:1-2 – The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace; they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. (Some of God’s saints shall be laid to rest, to not endure what is coming).

Luke 10:20 – Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. (The Book of Life)

John 5:28-29 – Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

John 6:40 – And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 14:1-3 – Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Corinthians 15:54-55 – So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 – For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.

2 Peter 3:9-14 – The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night: in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for a new heaven and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Revelation 14:13 – And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Sprit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Revelation 21:3-7 – And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
