Brenda Marie Gillis Richards, 61, of Leicester passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Roy Gillis and Audrey Mae Owenby Gillis. She was a member of Gospel Tabernacle Church in Asheville and enjoyed quilting and a good game of bingo. Surviving are her spouse of 41 years, Bruce Wayne Richards; children, Brandy and her spouse, Brandyn, and Brooke all of Leicester, Brody and his spouse, Jessica, of Candler, and Brittany of Asheville; siblings, Roy Gillis and spouse, Louise, of Punta Gorda, FL, Judy Gillis of Melbourne, FL, Linda Crowe and her spouse, David, and Sandra Sawyer and her spouse, Steve all of Asheville; grandchildren, Colby , Morgan, Olivia, Elizabeth, Autumn, Addi, Lilli, Jocelyn, Caleb, Corbin, Piper, Ricardo, and Mason, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabeth House, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
