Cosby Eugene Dudley

Cosby E. Dudley Sr of Saluda, NC passed away on December 12, 2018. Cosby, son of Frank and Margaret Shifflett Dudley, was born March 12, 1936 in Crozet, VA. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister Violet Dudley Harding, brothers Winifred S, George F, Alan D, and James; Daughter in law Mitzi Dudley and two grandchildren, Joseph I. Matthews and Joshua Caleb Matthews and great granddaughter Eve Destiny Louis.  He is survived by his adored wife of 61 years Alice Bailey Dudley, his brothers Joseph and wife Ruth of Scottsville, VA, and Charles of Waynesboro, VA and wife Shirley, his daughter Patricia Ann Brennan and husband Terry of Maryville TN, sons Richard, Travis and his wife Katie of Saluda, and Cosby Jr and his wife Laura of Chapel Hill, NC. He will remain loved in the memory of 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and scores of nieces and nephews. 

Cosby served 23 years in the US Air Force, including two tours of duty in South East Asia during the Vietnamese conflict. He retired from the military and moved to Saluda NC where he worked at Michelin Tire for 16 years and at the Triangle Quick Stop and Hendersonville YMCA.  He enjoyed fishing, rooting for the Redskins, gardening, watching the races with Ken Witt, spending time with his grandkids, and anything to do with Thomas Jefferson and his home state of Virginia. He had several special friends and he never met a stranger.

A service will be held at Polly’s Mtn in Saluda followed by a celebration of his life at the Saluda Fire Hall, where he was a lifetime member, at 3:00pm on January 12, 2019.
