Dana Duane Vandernick, 85, of Asheville, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Mr. Vandernick was born in Pennsylvania on August 23, 1933 to the late C.A. Vandernick and Hazel Marie Lewis Vandernick. He graduated from Ashtabula High School in Ashtabula, Ohio, with the class of 1951. He later received a degree in music at Kent State University. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force with whom he retired after many years of service.
Mr. Vandernick was a professional drummer and an enthusiast of jazz, rock, and big band styles. He was a member of AFM Professional Musicians’ Club. He held a deep appreciation for classic architecture and was enamored with castles and chateaus. For this reason, he loved working at the Biltmore Estate.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Vandernick.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffery Shane Vandernick of Asheville and Daniel DuShawn Vandernick; a grandson, Daniel DuShawn Vandernick, II; and two great granddaughters, Sherry Taylor Vandernick and Kristen Lee Vandernick.
