Diane Sheiry Obituary

Diane O. Sheiry

June 12, 1957 – August 13, 2018

Diane O. Sheiry, age 61, died Monday around noon in the arms of her loving husband in her Flat Rock home.

Diane Adele Olmstead was born June 12, 1957 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Devere Eldon and the late Dorothy (North) Olmstead. She was the oldest of three children; her beloved siblings Darla J. Olmstead (Flat Rock, NC) and D. Allen Olmstead (Buford, GA) survive her. She graduated from Clarkston High School, Stone Mountain, GA in 1975.

After a whirlwind courtship, Diane married John S. Sheiry, Jr. on May 1, 1977 at the First Moravian Church of Georgia, Stone Mountain, Georgia. She is survived by her husband along with their two daughters, Emily Christine Sheiry (Michael) Rapetti of McLean, VA and Victoria Ruth Sheiry (Michael) Lovelace of Kings Mountain, NC. She also leaves behind her sweet granddaughter Everly Christine Rapetti and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She and her husband were the owners and Innkeepers of the 1898 Waverly Inn in Hendersonville, NC for 28 years, from 1988 to 2016, along with her sister Darla. Diane was an Associate member of the Home Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, NC.

A memorial service in celebration of the life of Diane Sheiry will be held at 11am on Saturday September 29, 2018 at the Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC with the Rev. Ginny Tobiassen presiding. Family and friends are asked to gather outside the Church. From there we will walk as a group to God’s Acre for a graveside service in Diane’s honor.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Diane Sheiry may be directed to support CMML research by Dr. Amy DeZern at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Dr. DeZern's research on CMML, as well as her and her team's excellent care, provided us almost three extra years with Diane and we would like her continued research to be supported. Please make checks payable to Johns Hopkins University with a memo that it is for "Dr. Amy DeZern's CMML research in memory of Diane Sheiry" and mail to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, 750 East Pratt Street, Suite 1700, Baltimore, MD 21202 or make a gift online. The family would like to be notified of your gift to Johns Hopkins, so please also include a note with your donation, requesting a letter be sent to the Family of Diane Sheiry at 68 Olmsted Lane, Flat Rock, NC 28731 regarding the donation.

A limb has fallen from the family tree
I hear a voice that whispers, ‘Grieve not for me’
Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs
The good I lived while I was strong
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you
Keep on smiling, the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest
Remembering all…how I was truly blessed
Continue traditions, no matter how small
Go on with your lives, don’t stare at the wall
I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin
Until
that fine day we’re together again.
