Sue (Emma Sue) Flax was born July 31, 1925 and died June 29, 2017 at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation, Flat Rock. She was one of eight children of the late Carl and Lula Miller of Fairview, NC. She was the widow of Norman Flax.

She is survived by her step-daughter Sandra Schultz of Northridge, California; daughters: Sandra (Dave) Miller of Pfafftown, NC; Aileen Flax of Hendersonville, NC; Norma Flax of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren Robbin Wald of Chicago, Illinois; Will Flax of Chicago, Illinois; David (Michelle) Schultz of San Francisco, California; Robert Schultz of San Diego, California; Michelle (Alan) Simons of Winston-Salem, NC; Shawn (Tina) Miller of Port Jefferson, NY; Shara (Michael) Fordyce of Taylors, South Carolina. She was also great-grandmother to nine.

She was preceded in death by step-son Emmanuel Flax and grand-children Michael Flax and Daniel Schultz.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and others who became an integral part of her family. Sue and Norman moved their family to Hendersonville from Chicago in July 1971 before his death in December of that year. She graduated from Blue Ridge Technical Institute in 1973 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a private duty nurse and retired from the extended care facility of Margaret R. Pardee Hospital in 1990. She attended Grace Lutheran Church.

A service in celebration of her life will be held September 30, 2017, 3:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 1245 Sixth Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28791.

The family requests no flowers be sent due to allergies. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Hendersonville Rescue Mission, 639 Maple Street, Hendersonville, NC 28793; Four Seasons Foundati9on (Hospice), 221 N. Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28729; or a charity of one’s choice.
