Gary Paul Silver Asheville – Gary Paul Silver, 64, of 38 O’Donald Rd, Asheville, passed away on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017. He was born on September 17, 1952 to Pauline Bartlett and Harold Eugene Silver in Asheville, NC. He was a native of Buncombe County, and graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School. Gary was an inspiration to many, being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, brother, and coach. As Gary travelled along his life’s path, he grew to be a man of great strength, who played hard and loved easily. As a teenager, he played football and loved the game; as a result of his passion, he became a coach to share his knowledge and intense love for the game. Many young men passed through his guidance as a coach and grew to love and respect what he taught them, both on and off the field. Gary loved and was loved by many. Gary’s passion and love for sports continues on through his grandchildren. Although Gary loved spending time watching sports and Westerns on T.V., nothing brought him more joy than to be on a field or in a gym watching, cheering, and bragging on his three grandchildren as they played the many sports they love. He was so proud of them. Even as his health declined, he would watch recorded games so that he could keep up with his grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments. Gary was also very proud of his two sons, Chad and Nick. He taught them how to be men and to have an extreme work ethic, attacking life and each task you face with 110%. His motto was, “give everything 110%, or not at all”. Gary was determined to accomplish goals by himself, and to never give up on any task. He exemplified this motto to the very end as he battled cancer. Upon being diagnosed with cancer, his first reaction was going to the track to time himself, in order to keep a goal. He finished out his battle by holding on to a promise he made to watch a final NC Basketball game with his grandsons creating a special and final memory. Shortly afterward, he took his final breath. There are many words that people use to define each other, but Gary could not possibly be summed up with just one. Gary had many attributes that made him such a wonderful man: hard working, giving, unselfish, tough/fighter, amazing work ethic, loving, funny, honest, encouraging, motivating, and the list goes on and on. Gary is a man that left an impression on many. He will forever be missed. Gary is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Silver. He is survived by his wife, Debrea Silver of Asheville, NC; his two sons, Chad (Kami) Silver of Leicester, NC; and Nick Silver of Asheville, NC; brothers, Gene Silver(Charlene) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Dennis Silver (Betsy) of Asheville, NC; and Brent Silver of Myrtle Beach, SC. Left to cherish the memories are also his grandchildren, Ethan, Jacob and Cecilee Silver, as well as eight nieces and nephews, several cousins and many friends. The family will receive friends on April 8, 2017 from 1:00-3:30 pm at Newfound Baptist Church in Leicester, NC with the service immediately following at 3:30 pm. Bro. Keith Watkins and Matthew Dorsey will be officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Asheville Mortuary Services.
