Pence Springs, West Virginia – James Richard “J.R.” Allen, 68, of Pence Springs, West Virginia, formerly of Candler, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Care Partners Hospice in Asheville.
Mr. Allen was born in Beckley, West Virginia, on July 22, 1950, to the late Coe C. Allen and Beulah Mae Richards Allen. He was married to his wife of forty eight years, Kathy McCormick Allen. Mr. Allen proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He was of Baptist faith and was formerly a supervisor at Continental Teves. He enjoyed fishing and camping, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Allen of Pence Springs; two sons, Phil Allen and wife Stephanie of Candler, NC and Jeremy Allen and wife Tracey of Kingwood, TX; a daughter, Jennifer Penland and husband John of Fairview, NC; a brother, David Allen and wife Valorie of Gap Mills, WV; a sister, Jeanne Nagye and husband Elmer of Piney View, WV; two grandsons, Grant and Wyatt Allen, both of Kingwood, TX; two granddaughters, Amber and Kaylee Brown, both of Fairview, NC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Chapel of the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville with the Rev. Brenda Lewis officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service at the Solace Center Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
