James R. Bandelin died on June 8, 2018 at the Givens Estates Health Center. He was born in 1926 in Red Wing, Minnesota, and subsequently lived in Neenah, Wisconsin and Danbury, Connecticut, before retiring to Hendersonville, and moving in 2005 to Asheville.
He received an engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, and his business career spanned 38 years in corporate management of American Can Company.
His was married to Mary Andersen Bandelin for 63 years. Mary preceded him in death, as did their daughter, Janet Bandelin MD. He is survived by three grandchildren, and nephews and nieces in the Midwest.
He was active in varied civic activities and swim team related undertakings. James liked sports and outdoor activities including skiing, fishing and hunting. He and his wife enjoyed extensive international travel.
Cremation was followed by burial in Red Wing Minnesota. A future graveside service will be celebrated. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice/Palliative Care Unit of Asheville Care Partners Health Services.
