James Ellis Jim Harley, 66, of Canton, passed away on June 22, 2019 at his home. Jim was born October 24, 1952 in Sarasota, Florida to Melvin E. Harley and Mildred Louise Moyers Harley. Jim moved to Asheville, NC in 1996 to be employed at Dave’s Steel Company, where he worked for several years as a sandblaster and painter. He then worked at Asheville Housing Authority as a painter, after which he retired and moved to Canton, NC, where he lived for the remainder of his life. In his retirement, Jim enjoyed working part time for the single stop stores, where he never met a stranger. A special thanks to David and Kim Singleton, as well as all his coworkers, for always being there to talk to and brighten Jim’s days throughout his illness. He loved them all so much. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, sister Martha Harley, twin sister Jane Funderburke, and brother Donald Harley. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Katherine Lynn Ingle Harley; daughters Vanessa Sawyer (Thomas) of Tampa, FL, Beth Harley of Washington State, and Kiniko Harley, also of Washington State; his son James Harley of Richmond, IN; brother Robert Harley (Donna) of st. Petersburg, FL; sister Ruth Ann Bennett of St. Petersburg, FL; grandson Cody Harley of Washington State; granddaughters Bethany Harley, Alison Harley, Kiniko Harley, and Cheyenne Anderson, all of Washington State.; stepson Zachariah Turner (Beth) of Leicester, NC; step-grandson Hayden Banks of Leicester, NC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A service for Jim will be held on Sunday July 7, 2019, at 3PM in Candler, NC at the Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church, located at 80 Wise Rd. Rev. Kenneth Ingle and Rev. Zachariah Turner will officiate. The most important thing Jim ever did was at the end of his life when, with a childlike faith, he gave his heart to Jesus Christ and received Him as his Lord and savior. This goes to prove the wonderful grace and mercy of our loving Father, God in Heaven. That God did open up the gates and received Jim in Heaven, welcome in my good and faithful servant!
