Joann Matty

On Thursday, November 14, 2019, Joann “Joan” Matty passed away at the age of 80. Joan was born in New York, NY on August 13, 1939 to Patrick and Ann Traynor. On August 16, 1958, Joan married Michael Matty at St. Francis de Sales Church in Rockaway Beach, NY. In 1985, Joan and Michael moved to Arden, NC. They raised two sons, Michael and Jimmy Matty. Joan had a passion for family and for preserving family history through photographs, story telling, and documenting the family lineage. Joan was known by her friends and family for being kind and loving in her relationships, honest about her ideas and opinions, and for her sassy humor.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Matty. She is survived by her sons Michael and Jimmy Matty, daughter-in-law, Josefina Matty, and grandchildren, Alyssa Reinhardt, Joseph Matty, and Cameron Matty. Joan asked that her ashes be spread beside her husband’s grave in Asheville, NC. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A memorial service is being arranged for a later date in 2020.
