HENDERSONVILLE, NC – Joel Raymond Maynard, 84, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at the Givens Health Center in Asheville.
Joel was born in Providence, Rhode Island on December 17, 1933, to the late Joseph Joel Philip Maynard and Annie Marie Januszewski Maynard. He was married to his wife of forty nine years, Ericka Maynard. Joel served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was an electronics specialist with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency for twenty seven years and was with Rockwell for ten years. As aviation was his first love, Joel enjoyed flying and held a private pilot license. He was of Roman Catholic faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus with whom he served as a Deputy Grand Knight. Joel was full of love and his grandchildren and dogs were always close to his heart. He will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ericka Maynard of Hendersonville; a daughter, Ann Marie Kennedy and husband Michael of Asheville; a son, Joel Maynard and wife Anne Brie of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a granddaughter, Savannah Kennedy of Asheville; four grandsons, Aiden and Declan Kennedy, both of Asheville, Dylan and Lucas Maynard, both of Harrisonburg.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Warrenton, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four Seasons Hospice (fourseasonsfdn.org), 221 N.
