Joyce Hooper Galloway, aged 75, of Brevard North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Solace House Hospice Center in Asheville on Sunday, October 21st, 2018 following an extended illness.
Joyce graduated in 1961 from Brevard High School. She then went to work at Ecusta where she worked her way up to the position of Customer Service Manager for Domestic Sales. Joyce worked at Ecusta for 35 years, retiring in 1997. After that she worked for Lloyd Fisher and Fisher Realty at the beginning of the Straus Park Project. She then went on to busy herself working at Hooper Insurance Agency for her brother, Darrell Hooper; then she worked several years at Cotn for her niece, Patti Coblentz. Joyce was not one to let moss grow. She was an active member at Selica Methodist Church for 30 years and she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, painting, and creating but most of all, spending time with friends and family. Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents, John Will Hooper and Zona Cloer Hooper, as well as her brother, Darrell Hooper. She is survived by her spouse and friend of 50+ years, Joe Travis Galloway. In addition she is survived by one daughter, Anna Marie Galloway of Brevard, and the light of her life, one grandson, John Travis Hogsed. Joyce is also survived by two sisters, Hilda Siniard (Tink) and Dottie Hutchins (James), both of Brevard. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews, in-laws, wonderful friends and her loyal feline companion, Gabby. Mother Theresa was quoted as saying, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” By those measures, Joyce was very definitely a world changer!
Joyce did not wish a funeral or memorial service to be held. Rather, a celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to either The Boys and Girls Club of Brevard, 11 Gallimore Road, Brevard NC 28712, or Solace Hospice Center, 21 Belvedere Road, Asheville NC 28803.
