Kevin James Cooley, 67, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in Asheville, NC.
Kevin was born July 10, 1951 in Teaneck, NJ to Chester Frances Cooley and Catherine Cooley nee Bowden.
Kevin received his BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and later his MBA at Rollins College. He went on to serve as the Mayor of Lake Lure, NC. Kevin previously served as the president of FES (Florida Engineering Society) and as Vice President of NSPE (National Society of Professional Engineers). He was a member of the Catholic Church and in his personal time he enjoyed boating and spending time with his grandchildren.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 19 years, Yvonne Young Cooley; daughters Heather Libby (Greg) of Longwood, FL and Alexis Cooley of Longwood, FL; son Michael Cooley (Carrie) of Orlando, FL; stepdaughter Christy Tucker of Pelham, AL; stepson Christopher Wood (Megan) of Orange City, FL; brother Bill Cooley (Lavonne) of Hayes, KS; and grandchildren Carter, Parker, Anderson and Katelyn Libby of Longwood, FL, Tyler Tucker and Nathan Brasher or Pelham, AL, Cayden and Caleb Wood of Orange City, FL, and Amelia Cooley of Orlando, FL.
A service will be held at Fairfield Mountains Chapel, Lake Lure, on Sunday, May 19th at 2pm. A reception will follow at Lake Lure Inn at 4pm.
