Laura Renee “Shorty” Hilton, 31, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, died Friday, July 26, 2019, at St. Joseph Hospital after a brief illness.
Laura was born March 22, 1988, to Valerie Edwards Taylor and Raymond Marshall Hilton in Asheville, North Carolina. She attended Riverside High School and University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Laura enjoyed nature, especially fishing and camping, animals, spending time with family and friends, music and crafts. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Laura was always there for everyone else and wished to be remembered by her kindness, smile, humility, bravery, and selflessness.
Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents, Shirley Taylor of Candler, NC, and Martha Hilton and Virgil Hilton of Oxford, NC.
She is survived by her parents; her step-father, Greg Taylor, and step-mother, Iva Hilton; her son, Conner Jace Freeman; her siblings, Steven Howell of Wilmington, NC, and John Hilton and Juliana Hilton of Durham, NC; her Uncle Kenny Edwards and his wife Kristy of Fletcher, NC, Uncle Phillip Taylor and his wife Jennifer of Weaverville, NC, Uncle Charles Edwards and his wife Amanda of Candler, NC; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and her dog Thor.
Due to her humble and modest nature, Laura wouldn’t want anybody making a big fuss over her so there are no immediate plans for a memorial service. Her family and friends that loved her dearly will gather at her favorite spot at the beach in Charleston, SC, for a celebration of her life at an appropriate later date. In honor of her love of all people and the critters that love them back, her family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the Henderson County Animal Services Center, 828 Stoney Mountain Road Hendersonville, NC, 28791.
