Lt. Col. R W Nored, U.S.N., U.S.A.N.G., ret., Ed.D., better known as Pete to family and friends, passed peacefully from this world and into the next on December 12, 2018.

On December 27, 1945, Watson and Maudie Nored, of Hiwannee, MS, welcomed their third son, R W. He joined brothers Arthur Lee, W.F., Eugene, and sister Margaret. Sisters Cheryl, Cathy, Rebecca, and brother Tony later joined the family.

Pete joined Hiwannee Baptist Church by baptism at 13. After high school and a brief stint at the glove factory, Pete followed his older brothers by joining the military in the fall of '65. Upon completion of his training, Pete became a Navy Corpsman. He served two tours in Vietnam earning a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. After the completion of Pete's Naval service, he returned home to his native Mississippi and began his education to become a nurse. Pete was one of the first males to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing in the state of Mississippi and was a man in a woman's world as reported by the Laurel paper. Pete began teaching nursing and soon after married his wife, Sherry. They had three children together. Pete continued serving his country as a member of the Mississippi National Guard and later the Georgia National Guard. After obtaining his doctorate in Adult Education, Pete worked as a Critical Care Nurse, a Hospice nurse, and as a nurse in the Cath Lab before his retirement in 2002. Pete enjoyed his retired life as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate, he participated in multiple medical missions to Central America and refereed soccer. He worked hard at harassing his loved ones.

Pete was welcomed to his heavenly home by his parents, his brother Eugene, and his sisters Cheryl and Margaret.

Pete leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Sherry, his children, Damon, Kasey, and Adam, his daughter-in-law Leanne, and his grandchildren, Brice and Brancin. He is also survived by his siblings, Arthur Lee, W.F., Cathy, Rebecca, and Tony. A host of other family and friends also survive. He was a good friend, a great son, brother, uncle, Daddy and Papaw and he will be missed by many.
