Ray Turner Newbern, 69, passed away on February 7, 2018 at Mission Hospital. He was born on May 8, 1948 in Douglas, Georgia to Malcolm James Newbern and Naomi Vida Fales Newbern. In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his siblings Quinell Woodwand, Dan Newbern, and Marie Newbern Guest. Ray was enlisted in the Army, and served in the Vietnam War during September of 1966. He attended Rose Creek Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing, reading and bird watching.

Ray is survived by his nieces, Robin Hunt (R.D. Hunt) of Wavely, GA, and Pam Peepes; nephews Michael Fields (Nesi) and Jimmy Newbern.

A memorial service will be held on February 24, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Rose Creek Baptist Church, 60 Blue Ridge Drive, Franklin, NC 28734 with the Reverend Morris Tippet officiating. Burial will take place at the Memorial Garden in Brunswick, GA.
