Raymond Eugene “Speedy” Carter, 70, of Canton, formerly of Hertford, passed away peacefully at his home December 31, 2017.

A native of Augusta, GA, he was a son of the late Robert Nathaniel Carter and Louise Burch. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his late wife, Linda Carter.

Survivors include his children, Linda Guffy (Andrew) of Candler, Raymond Carter, Jr., Robert Carter (Katherine) of Hertford, and Betty Brashear (Robert, Jr.) of Canton; grandchildren, Anthony Guffy of Candler, Brittany Barger (Ethan) of Asheville, Patricia Burnette (Christopher) of Canton, Cameron Brashear of Canton, Brandon Carter of Canton, and Richard Wagner, Jr. (Drusilla) of Port Trevorton, PA, Travis Wagner of Mifflingburg, PA, Michelle Phillips of Hertford, Harley Brickhouse (Shelton) of Hertford, Savannah Brashear of Canton and Kyle Carter of Hertford; and great-grandchildren, Destiny Renee Guffy of Asheville, Christian Michael Fohman of Asheville, David Lee Stokely of Asheville, Gabrielle Faith Stokely of Asheville, Houston Allen Clement of Asheville, Kayden Andrew Duggar of Asheville, Ares Christopher Burnette of Canton, Hayden Lee Justice Wagner of Port Trevorton, PA, and Brooklyn Nikkole Paisley Wagner of Port Trevorton, PA.

A memorial service will be held on January 13, 2018 at 4:00 PM at the Connection Point Church of God at 142 Elk Mountain Road, Asheville, NC 28804 with Pastor Stan Asher officiating.
