Richard ‘Dick’ Burwell, 76, passed away on October 14, 2018 in Asheville, NC. He was born June 1942 in Boston, MA to John Edward Burwell and Marguerite Elizabeth Murphy, both of whom predeceased him. During his lifetime he lived in numerous places, including New Hampshire, Asheboro, NC, Lehigh, FL, and Clayton, GA.
For his career, Richard was an AP in the United States Air Force and then worked as Quality Control Engineer with various Electronics companies. Richard was a lover of nature enjoying cycling, cross-country skiing, photography, and hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Richard is survived by his six siblings; sisters Jane Westlake of Lehigh, FL, Martha Reale (Robert) of Las Vegas, NV and Mary Henry (Glenn) of Julian, NC; brothers Roger Burwell (Dorothy) of Cape Coral, FL, David Burwell (Linda) of Brockton, MA, and Paul Burwell (Eileen) of N. Weymouth, MA; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
Disbursement of the cremated remains will be done privately by the family at a later time.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mission Health Department of Philanthropy at P.O. Box 5363 Asheville, NC 28813 or to the North Carolina Zoo Dept of Animal Enrichment at 4401 Zoo Pkwy, Asheboro, NC 27205.
