Robert C Adams, 79, of Etowah, NC, went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2018, at the Valor Hospice CLC of the Asheville North Carolina Veteran's Hospital.
He was born in Jamaica, NY, on Feb. 3, 1939, to George Royal Adams and Helen Alice Vollmer Adams.
After meeting on a blind date and telling his mother he met an angel, he married the love of his life, Pauline Eastman on March 18,1959. Together they had six children.
Robert, also known as Bob, was a man of many talents and careers. He served in the US Army, was an elementary school teacher, a volunteer fire fighter, a licensed pilot and an attorney at law.
Bob was a brilliant and motivated man, graduating summa cum laude from SUNY Oneonta and later self educated for the NY bar exam.
As a young soldier he received the Post Soldier of the Month Award at Redstone Arsenal. He was a Sunday school teacher and served as a member and elder with the United Methodist Church. He proudly served as a member of the Valley Stream Lions Club.
Extremely gifted and innovative, he was a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, camping, model trains, ham radio, computers, electronics, woodworking, yachting, dirt track car racing, and travel. He had an incredible dry wit that kept us laughing to the very end, a true prankster at heart. He will be affectionately remembered as our Grand Poobah and as a spectacular down hill skier with brother Rich.
Robert is survived by his wife, Pauline, his 5 children, Catherine Russo (and husband Frank), Susan Fairchilds, Paul Adams and wife Mindy, Jennifer Nix (and husband Sean), George Adams (and wife Sandy), 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and dearly loved brother, Richard and his family.
He was preceded in death by his son Robert Joseph Adams and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on December 11th at Batcave Baptist Church, weather permitting. Interment will follow at the Long Island National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest alongside his son.
