Albert LeRoy Head, 83, of Asheville NC, formerly of Bradenton FL and Middlesboro, KY passed from this earth on January 2, 2024.
A man born with quiet strength, gifted with a heart of kindness and a second-to-none laugh to bring joy to all, he held many talents and interests, and had a strong moral ethic for life. He proudly served the United States Army in his early years and applied his learned and natural skills in various trades throughout his life with a commitment to excellence and dedication, and a non-compromising commitment to honesty. Always an inquisitive mind, he thoroughly enjoyed knowledge and trivia of every area of life, yet history held a special place in his heart, with an emphasis on Native American History. (Cowboys and Indians? – Oh yeah!) He became a published fiction author of a novel “Escape to Hope” and held musical talents of many stringed instruments and an endless appreciation of all music for which he will be forever remembered.
Unquestionably, above all things, he treasured family like gold from heaven and rejoiced mightily in it. His ability to walk alongside family as the truest friend cannot speak enough to his unparalleled character.
Survivors include his two daughters, Veronica (a/k/a Rhonda) Powell and Kimberly Shields, both of Strawberry Plains, TN; two sisters, Cleadia (a/k/a Tracy) Sutton of Forest Hill, MD., and Georgia (a/k/a Gerri) Hoffman of Arden, NC; 8 nieces and nephews that he always found a way to laugh with; 5 grandchildren who will always and forever adore and treasure him; and two great-grandchildren. Remaining survivors include his many cousins and friends in mourning.
He is predeceased by his parents, Albert Dock and Myrtle Mae Head; brother Kenneth Maynard Head; sisters Shelvie Johnson and Emily Kropf; nephew Michael Head; brothers-in-law Ken Tyson and Robert (“Bob”) Hoffman; and son-in-law John Powell.
Special gratitude to Valor Hospice at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville for being a beacon light of exceptional care and compassion while in their care during his transition.
No public service will be held. In his honor, truly love someone today as he loved us… make someone smile; extend unexpected kindness; tell a joke that you laugh at yourself; listen to your favorite song again and again; listen to a clock chime; tell someone you love them again and again…
