Barbara Lee Jones, 93, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 in Asheville, North Carolina, of natural causes. She lived a long and full life surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to Lester Theodore Ruppenthal and Viola Snyder Marshal Ruppenthal. She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School class of 1950. A member of John Wes- ley Methodist Church in Hagerstown, MD. Barbara grew up with strong family values and a generous spirit that guided her throughout her life. She later made Hagerstown her lifelong home, where she became a beloved presence among her family, friends, and community.
She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Miller, and preceded in death by her brothers Richard Ruppenthal and Theodore Ruppenthal, and sister Norma Jean Sherrard.
On August 8, 1953, Barbara married the love of her life, Robert Jones, beginning a wonderful journey that spanned 70 years of marriage, until Robert’s passing on December 7, 2023. Their love and devotion were a shining example of partnership, resilience, and joy.
Together, Barbara and Robert raised three children — Robert Craig Jones, Kevin Lee Jones, and the late Dana Lesley Jones — who were her greatest pride and joy. She was a loving grandmother to Jennifer Ann Jones, Joshua Alan Jones, Matthew Lee Jones, Joshua Craig Jones, Tiffany Lee Jones, Adam Schianodicola, Ciro Schianodicola, Nico Schianodicola, Letizia Turner, and the late Zachary Jones. Her legacy continues through her 15 great-grand- children and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Known for her kindness, humor, and unwavering love, Barbara touched the hearts of everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, generosity, and grace. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
