Barry Eugene “Turk” Jackson, 72, of Asheville, NC, passed away on March 22, 2026, at Fletcher Rehab and Health Care Center after a brief illness. Born on February 8, 1954, he was the son of the late Prue Jackson and Dicie Jackson Hart.
A proud 1972 graduate of Asheville High School, Barry was a dedicated football player during his time there. He later continued his education at Wilson Technical School in Wilson, NC. Barry had a lifelong love for football and a deep appreciation for jazz music, both of which brought him joy throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Jackson, and his wife, Denise Jones Jackson.
Barry leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Prudence Brady (Arthur) of Atlanta, GA, and Elease J. Holmes of Charleston, SC; his daughters, Megan Jackson Smith and Tiffany Jackson Herbin (Melissa); his son, Jayvon Jackson; and his grandsons, Malik Smith, Daryan Jackson, and Kadeem Smith. He is also remembered fondly by a host of relatives and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Fletcher Rehab and Health Care Center for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Penland Family Funeral Home, 125 South Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778, from 1 PM-2 PM.
