Billy Rathbone

Billy Rathbone, age 75 of Candler, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 surrounded with his family.

Bill was born on January 19, 1950 in Haywood County to the late Willam Rathbone and Hazel Hampton Rathbone.

He served his country proudly for four years in the United States Marine Corps. Bill was honored with the  National Defense Service Medal, Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation and many other accolades. 

Bill was the manager at Enka Shell Station before continuing as a mechanic for over 30 years. He loved being on the lake and fishing all day long. He was a tough man to get to know, but he sure showed “his grandbabies” love and care. Those kids could always make Bill smile.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, JoAnn Boone, a daughter, Misty Rice, a son, Kris Rathbone, two daughters by marriage, Rene Boone and Carrie McKinney(Mike), two sons by marriage, Randy Boone and the late James Boone. Bill had many grandchildren; and lots of great-grandchildren that he enjoyed spending time with.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
