Carol Ann Smith Berry, 89, of Woodfin, NC, passed away on March 29, 2026, at the John F. Keever Solace Center. She was born on March 3, 1937, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Harold Leslie Smith and Margaret Grace Webster Smith.
Before making her home in Woodfin, Carol lived in Biltmore Forest, NC; Hawthorne, CA; and Palos Verdes, CA. She graduated from the University of Akron in Akron, OH, where she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She later became a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Asheville, NC.
Carol had a lifelong love of writing and was an avid, voracious reader. She always dreamed of being a gardener, and when she settled in Biltmore Forest, she finally had the space to bring that dream to life. Her home blossomed with an English garden, a Japanese garden, and a thriving culinary herb garden. She found great joy in preparing meals seasoned with the fresh herbs she nurtured herself. The backyard even featured a peaceful walking trail that she and her family enjoyed.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert Lee Berry of Asheville, NC; and her son, Robert Bruce Berry (Deborah), of Asheville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Asheville Humane Society at https://www.ashevillehumane.org/donate/shop-for-a-cause/.
