Candler - Cecil Ernest McMahan, 82, of Candler, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at his home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. McMahan was the co-owner of White Monument Works, and later, the owner of McMahan and Sons Monument Company.  He attended Emma Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a well respected businessman for 50 years.  Mr. McMahan was known for his honesty, generosity, and willingness to always help someone in need.
Mr. McMahan was the son of the late Sherman and Lillian King McMahan.  He was also preceded in death by Edith Rogers, who raised him following the death of his parents; daughter,  Phyllis Ann McMahan; sisters, Leomia Crook and Alma Marlor, and brothers, Glenn and Carl McMahan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Marie Smith McMahan; children, Patricia McMahan Seely, Sharon McMahan Fardulis, Douglas Allen McMahan, Darryl Keith McMahan, and David Eric McMahan, Sr; grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Baynard, Eric and Christine Seely, Eric Jr. and Ben McMahan, and Zach Anderson; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friend from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services.  A graveside ceremony will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville with a reception to follow at the residence. Also, a reception for family and friends will be held from 2-5 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the residence of Kent and Pat Seely located at 2 Merrills Chase, Asheville, NC 28803.
