Charles Gordon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength. He was born on June 6, 1933, in Asheville, North Carolina.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, H.L. Gordon and Lillian Hindmon Gordon, and his beloved son, Alan Gordon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Celia Gordon; his son, John Gordon; his granddaughters, Rachel Graves and her husband Andy, and Callie Marino and her husband Matt; and his three cherished great-grandchildren, Andrew Graves, Noah Marino, and Luke Marino. His family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in each of them.
Charles dedicated 34 years of his career to BASF, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependability. He also honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Holabird in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1954 to 1956.
A man of deep faith, Charles was a long-time member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, where he found community and fellowship over many years.
Charles had a lifelong love of sports, particularly softball. After many years as a player, he continued his involvement in the game by serving as an umpire for men’s softball with Asheville Parks and Recreation, and later for girls’ softball with the North Carolina High School Association. His fairness and steady presence earned him the respect of players and coaches alike.
He also served his community through his leadership as Chairman of the Board of Enka Credit Union for many years, offering his time and guidance with integrity and care.
In his quieter moments, Charles found joy in gardening, tending to his plants with patience and pride. Whether on the field, in his garden, at church, or with his family, he lived a life marked by dedication, humility, and love.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate nurses and staff of CarePartners at Mission Health for the care and support they provided.
Charles will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
