Darrell Lee Hogsed, 76, went to his eternal heavenly home on January 19, 2022.
Born on February 26, 1945 to the late Harry Lee and Alma Pickens Hogsed, he was a lifelong resident of Brevard. He attended Brevard High School (class of 1963), Brevard College, and Western Carolina University then spent his career in the Transylvania County School System where he taught and coached for more than 30 years at Rosman High School.
He is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Yvonne Hogsed; son, Adam Hogsed; stepdaughters Kristen Nardone (Jason) and Tracey Scott (Luke); granddaughters Addison and Avery Nardone and Laelyn Conner; and sisters Darlene Hyder and Delores Hogsed.
A man of God, he went on numerous mission and disaster relief trips to help those in need and spread the Word. A voracious reader, he spent countless hours reading the Bible, studying biblical prophecy, and books about History. He was always working on some home repair project with meticulous attention to detail and precision. A jack of all trades, he could solve any construction related problem.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, fishing, and spending time in nature.
Proverbs 17:27 describes him to a tee: "the one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered." A man of few words, he was reserved and humble. When he spoke, people listened, and his word was his bond.
Above all else, he was a family man. A provider, protector, and confidante. He fervently loved his wife, children, and grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could.
He will be forever loved and missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
Memorial donations may be made to Dunn's Rock Baptist Church, PO Box 108, Brevard, NC 28712, or Turning Point Ministries.
