Davetta Ann Brooks (Malamphy) 61, passed away Saturday February 6th, 2021 at her parents home in Balsam after battling stage four lung cancer that had metastasized to her brain. Davetta is survived by her parents Kip and Dolly Wilke of Sylva, her daughters Brandi Sloop (husband Joseph) of Sylva, and Saira Bartlett of Asheville, along with her two grandchildren Cora Sloop and Maverick Bartlett. She is also survived by her brother Donald Malamphy of Clyde; her nephew Cody Malamphy of Castle Rock, Colorado, niece Heather Cochran of Williston, North Dakota, and multiple other siblings and relatives in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Davetta was born November 21,1959 in York, Pennsylvania and spent her teen years in Maryland. She moved to south Florida for several years, and later found her home in Waynesville, NC where she made many friends and developed a life for herself. She had an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Haywood Community College, where she graduated top of her class and was the President of the Criminal Justice Club. She loved her children, family, friends, and grandchildren deeply. Davetta was always crafting and repurposing antiques. Giving old things a new life was her special talent. She loved to bring natural beauty indoors and was always finding a spot for one more plant or flower. Davetta was good at everything she put her hands to. She had her Irish wit and a beautiful smile that could light up a room.
She was a dedicated employee at Service Master of Haywood County where she was the Head Cleaning Technician and was known as the “work crew mom.” Outside of work she lent a helping hand to anyone in need whenever she could. Davetta loved to live life to the fullest, she worked hard and played harder. She was an inspiration to many and loved by all. She always had her signature drink in hand, which led to her getting the nickname “Sweet Tea" by several friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations to be made in her name to St. Judes, at www.stjude.org, as she loved all children and previously spent time as a Guardian Adlitem.
A Remembrance of her Life Celebration will be held at her parents home April 10th, 2021. Details will be released at a later date via social media.
